late 1940′s / early 1950′s AU Henry+Elizabeth, trying to find peace after the war
a quick engagement in march 44 after barely two months of relationship. maybe it was the fear of dying tomorrow in another bombing, or this inexplicable bond between them since the moment they’ve met, or their mutual respect for old-fashioned traditions… they got married in may 44. he landed in France in june 44. things happened later. many things. he lost his wedding ring in the Ardennes, and his left foot the same day. she lost their baby in their bed. different battlefields with different victims. they both changed, both grew up, both became another person during the other’s absence. their reunion was just a mass of opposite emotions.
yet, some things remain constant –the smiles are graver but still appear at the same jokes –the rain are colder but he still offers his coat –the nights are longer but she still whispers soothing words during his nightmares. two different bodies. different journeys. different injuries. different fears. two different weary hearts, only wanting desesperatly to beat in sync again…
